1st 2 Games of 5th Edition

Last night I played my first 2 games of 5th Edition. There’s one phrase said by a friend of mine the pretty much summed up what I was doing wrong. “Stop playing like you got a pair and play to win.”

I’m still very new to 40k and I’ve learned that this game is not as aggressive as Warmachine/Hordes. While the new edition is more cinematic, it’s still restraining in some aspects.  For example assaulting. I’m not free to assault with my first model at an angle where I still get into base to base contact with the enemy but avoid difficult terrain. Be the letter of the rule I must go the shortest route possible. Something very limiting.

I do love the fact they got rid of targeting priority so I’m free to shoot whoever I want, and I do love the new Line of Sight rules. One thing I’m not to familiar with is the massive ranges on some weapons. Something I still have to get used to.

Its still a clunky system that I need to get used to with so many special rules for each type of unit and how attacks are resolved against them but I as I play more and more I’m sure I’ll remember them.

Time to Start Working on Orks

With my Space Marine army almost complete (Just a scout squad and combat squad left to paint), I decided to start on my Orks. So far I have purchased an Ork Battleforce and an Bozy box.  I have already assembled a unit of 11 Boz  and have primed them. The cool part about the Ork Boyz box is that even though it says 10 models it has enough parts to make 11 models.

So where’s what I have to do.

• 2 Units of Boyz
• 3 Bikes
• 1 Trukk

The Trukk has a ton of pieces and will take some time to build. I hope to finish building all my Boyz and bikes this week.

Space Marine Army Ready

My Space Marine army is ready for this Friday’s Warhammer 40K 5th Edition game. Just have to read up more on the rules.

Ultra Marine Land Raider

Picked up a Land Raider today. Still have some more work to do on it.

Calgar and Honor Guard Completed

Calgar and Honor Guard completed. Just have to paint up 5 Tactical Marines and 5 Scouts and I’m complete for now.

I just realized in this past week I’ve painted 20 Tactical Space Marines, a Rhino and Calgar and his Honor Guard. 36 models. Not bad for a week.

GW Bug Recap

Wow this year I really got the GW bug. I guess with 5th edition coming out it’s a good year to get started up again. Let’s recap.

• February 2008 - Purchased a Tau Mega Force
• April 2008 - Most of the Tau Mega Force is completed along with some other Tau models
• May 2008 - Picked up Daemons
• June 2008 - Completed painting Daemons and then purchased Imperial Sector terrain set and a Space Marine Battleforce
• July 2008 - Purchased 2 units of snap fit Space Marines and completed 90% of the Space Marine Battleforce I purchased last month. All that’s left to paint are the Space Marine Scouts. Also purchased a box of Ork Bozy. 22 bucks for 10 seems like a good deal to me.
• Today - Purchased an Ork Mega Battleforce and Space Marines Marneus Calgar with Honor Guard.

Wow that’s a lot of GW in the last 5 months. All that’s left is to get 5th edition and some more terrain. When will the bug end?

HQ Selected

Picked up Marneus Calgar with Honor Guard. This will be my HQ for my Space Marine army.

Finished up more of Space Marines. This time a Rhino and another Tactical Squad.

Project Space Marines: Part 1

Today I started painting my Space Marine army in the traditional Ultra Marine blue and gold. I finished a 10 man tactical squad and a 5 man assault squad.

Space Marine Battle Force

Picked up a Space Marine Battle Force this past Friday in preparation for my Space Marine army that I will be building with the new codex that is coming out in September.

Imperial Sector Update

Built up a total of 5 structures from the Imperial Sector terrain set. I must say you can a lot of bang for your buck with this one.

GW Bug: Imperial Sector

With all the hype around the release of Warhammer 40,000 5th edition, I’ve been getting bit by the GW bug. Today I picked up the Imperial Sector boxset from my local game shop. It’s a huge and heavy kit. It was either that or a Space Marine battle force. I think I will wait till September to start my Space Marine force.
