Anima Tactics: Aliss Testarossa

Finished Aliss Testarossa today. She is painted in P3 colors, Crxy Bane, Skorne, Re, Molten Bronze, Ryn Flesh and Pig Iron.

2007 Year In Review

2007 has been an interesting year for me in gaming. This year I was able to play a lot more different games than I have in previous years. Before it was all about Warmachine and Hordes and that’s it. Burnout from the Warmachine League opened my horizons to explore other miniatures and game systems. Here are my thoughts about 2007.

Warmachine
2007 brought about Leagues for Warmachine. Like most areas our league started strong with lots of player participation. The league has been actually hurtful to our local community as in the beginning of the year there were some new players that couldn’t get a game in unless it was a league game. One of my LGS has already brought this concern to me for next year. Also regular players in the last 2 seasons saw it more like a chore to play instead of being enjoyable. In 2008 I don’t think I will run any of the leagues, at least in the way it is currently formated. I will be busy running demos and building our player base.

The biggest release for Warmachine would have to be the Pirates. Being a merc player at heart I was happy to get another Warcaster and dove in and bought all the Pirates. I’ve finished painting the solos and characters but still have my Sea Dogs to paint.

Hordes
This year we had a mini league for Hordes that was mixed with Warmachine called Rampage. I played Skorne and I had a difficult time against Cryx and Menoth armies due to my lack of magic. In the end I won as Beast Master. Hordes Cav were a fun addition to the hordes factions. I think my favorite of the bunch are the Legion Raptors as they help me flank my enemy with their fast speed and long range weapons.

Anima Tactics
I picked up this game in the summer time and is actually my second most played game thanks to one of my other local players picking it up. I love the models and the simplicity of the basic game mechanics. Although the mechanics are simple it doesn’t mean that it lacks depth for strategy. Anima Tactics is a simple to learn but difficult to master and a ton of fun all around.

Wyrd Games
Wyrd Games makes outstanding miniatures. This pass summer I also ordered a lot of their miniatures to paint up. They have no game to play with their miniatures at this time but a game called Malifaux is currently in the works to hopefully be released sometime next year. I have held off assembling any more of their models as they have had issues with basing that has not been finalized.

AT-43
AT-43 is a my second most played game. I started of with Therians but have now moved on to only playing Red Blok. It’s a fun system with easy to learn rules. However, I do not like their army building rules. I find them difficult and restrictive. It is a fun game and that’s what matters the most to me.

Pulp City
This year I got to playtest Pulp City. I always thought a good easy to play superhero game was lacking and I hope Pulp City will fill that niche. From what I have seen I think it will. I am very much looking forward to this game next year.

AE-WWII
Weird war is a genre that I have always found an interest in and Alternate Events World War 2 will be the game that fills that niche for me. I have heard good things about the rules and I hope to get the rulebook soon. So far I have the American and German starters.

Tannhauser
Another weird war game but this time as a board game. Tannhauser has very excellent miniatures and I think would make a good miniatures game. The times I’ve played this game I have found enjoyable. Something I will keep on collecting.

Heroscape
Finally got to play some Heroscape. This past Christmas season allowed me to get some great deals on both Master Set 1 and 2. Now I have a ton of terrain. I hope to get more came in 2008.

Infinity
I got into this game really late this year. Infinity was mostly what I got for Christmas. I haven’t played a game yet, but the models are beautiful. I sort of dove right in with 3 starters, 3 tags and 3 characters models.

2007 was a great year for gaming. I found myself branching out to other games to keep things interesting. Can’t wait for 2008!

Anima: Shadow of Omega Card Game

I just picked up Anima: Shadow of Omega Card game today. I’ve been meaning to get this for sometime and finally decided to get it. The artwork on the card are great. The game seems to be lots of fun. I did do a quick browse through the rules though. Hopefully I get to try it out sometime soon.

Light vs. Dark

Played a game tonight against the Dark. My team consisted of Feng Yi with Nullum Lusec, Evangeline with Presense, Dereck Shezard, Janus Faith, and Akio Kageshima. My opponent had Dark Chesire, Harod, Faust Orbatos, Celia. Sophia Ilmora, and Tsubasa Kurokami.

We played 3 games that night and it was lots of fun. I giving Derek tons of Haste to prepare him for battle. Feng Yi i is awesome. Next time I play I want to try the Dark faction.

Anima Tactics - Aoi Inukai

This model was fun to paint even though she’s very small. For her clothes I used Vallejo Game Color Squid Pink and washed with a white/pink mix and then highlighted. The reds are from P3 Khador Red which are then highlighted with P3 Khador Red Highlight.

I’ve actually played with this figure and really like her. I dropped Evangeline for her in my last couple of games for a couple of reasons. First of all coral Ecstasy on Dereck is just great. Moon Seal allows me to get rid of that wretched Doom on essential models that I need. And Spiritual Beam allows me to attack models just like her, weak with low life points.

Anima Tactics - Azriel

Here is Azriel who I painted maybe about1 week to 2 weeks ago. I don’t remember. He is a Dark Character aligned with the Church.

I haven’t played with him, but I’ve played against him last week. As tough as he is Khaine was able to kill him in one blow thanks to Sacred Attack.

Anima Tactics - Feng Yi

Feng Yi is one of my favorite models in the Anima Tactics line. I love the sculpt and was very eager to paint this one up.

She is primed black fully assembled. The base coat for her clothes is P3 Cygnar Blue which was later dry brushed with P3 Cygnar Blue Highlight.

I then painted the details on her clothes P3 Morrow White. A quick heavily diluted black wash was applied to meld the colors together. After that dried I lightly went over some of the white parts again that may have gotten too much of the wash. I then highlighted the clothes with P3 Cygnar Blue Highlight.

Her skin was painted first with P3 Khardic Flesh and then painted with Vallejo Game Color Pale Flesh.

Her hair is colored P3 Umbral Umber and inked with GW Flesh Wash.

Her weapons were painted P3 Blighted Gold first because of its excellent coverage and then highlighted with P3 Solid Gold. I really wish I could make her weapons more lighter in color but I’m afraid I don’t have the colors on hand to do that.

She was very fun to paint. I opted to paint her in the blue scheme shown on the back of her card opposed to the green one shown in Wen’s Deviant Art Gallery.

I really like Feng Yi’s stats. She’s a 45 point model that has 5 actions and recovers 3. Like Alessa she is able to have 2 Advantage cards attached to her. I’m thinking of Attaching Nullum Lesec to her. On a really critical turn with Nullum Lesec she becomes Attack 7. If Sophia is there she can become Attack 9 with with Offensive Analysis. If her second advantage card is Supernatural Weapon she becomes Attack 10. God forbid Evangeline is there to boost her up to Attack 11.

With all these bonus she could very well kill multiple models in one turn that she’s in base to base contact with them. To achieve this would mean Feng Yi would have to be engage the previous turn by multiple units. She can afford to dodge 3 times. The next turn if she gets to activate first she would be able to attack on model with Attack 11 and 1 damage. That may not kill the model, but she can make a second attack as long as she hits that’s Attack 12 (again with the bonuses) and 3 damage and then another attack at Attack 13 and Damage 4. Her last and final attack will be at Attack 14 and Damage 5. If things are setup right she will outright kill at least 1 (most likely 2) figures in one turn. I really can’t wait to try her out. I hope my analysis of her works out.

Anima Tactics - Janus Faith

Today I painted Janus Faith from the Anima Tactics line. His scheme is what is displayed on the back of his card.

I primed him black and then did a quick dry brush of Vallejo Model Color Gold to pick off the armor detail. I then painted the white parts of the armor P3 Frostbite followed with P3 Morrow White.

His faith is painted P3 Midland Flesh with P3 Flesh Wash. His pants are highlighted with P3 Bastion Grey.

The model took about 1 hour 30 minutes to complete.

Janus Faith is 45 points and really is just a tank for the Light faction. He has an Armor of 3 plus an Absolute Defense which increases by 3 for a total of Armor 6. The great thing about Absolute Defense is that it’s an upkeep. Aoi Inukai casting Coral Ecstasy brings Janus up to Armor 8 at the same time allowing him to upkeep Absolute Defense with a Haste Token. This would leave him with 4 actions for him to move up and use Executioner.

Janus Faith would seem to be a logical replace for Kronen . He is more offensive than Kronen and will actually have a chance to hit things. Janus doesn’t have as many life points as Kronen to sustain damage in the long run which could lead him to be get killed early on. I will try him with Greater Life Potion to keep him in the game longer.

Hopefully I can get him to work for me in my upcoming game this Friday.
