Coming back to my blog has made me realize how much things have changed for me in my gaming hobby and how much somethings never change. As I clean up old pages and read through old posts I’ve realized that as I get older time gets limited and priorities change. The challenge is how to adapt and still have some “me” time in my gaming hobby to keep my sanity. There needs to be balance between being a husband, father and with work.
In the past I was into a lot of games and just recently I’ve learned to let them go by selling them off.
AT-43
I had a huge collection of AT-43 figures. I started out with Red Blok and then moved my way to UNA. When the army boxes came out out I bought a 2 for Cogs and 2 for ONI and 1 for Red Blok. Now that the game has died I’ve let go of my Cogs and ONI and will be parting with some of my Red Blok. I will keep my UNA and Red Blok and the terrain elements as I still have uses for them.
Confrontation
Like AT-43 I had a ton of these models. Army boxes for the Lion and the Ram and tons of figures for Wolfen, Griffon and Dirz. Unlike AT-43 I’ve only played 1 game of Confrontation. In hind sight not money well spent. I’m currently trying to get rid of the Lion and Ram army boxes.
Urban War
I started a small force and only played this game once. The models are nice but it too seems like another dead game.
Uncharted Seas
I’ve played the game about 5 times and had fully painted Dwarves and Elves fleets. I’ve sold them off as I’m not getting any value with them just in their storage boxes with no game time in over 2 years.
Firestorm Armada
Same as uncharted seas. 1 Fully painted fleet played about 3 times. Sold this off as well.
Dystopian Wars
Started this at the beginning of the year before I got really busy at work. I played 1 game. The game wasn’t that bad but being limited in my time I needed to start focusing on games that is actually played in my area. Sold off my fully painted British starter and carrier.
Alkemy
Played this game once. I got all into it from GenCon 08 and it’s just another dead system. I’d like to sell this off but I don’t see anyone buying it.
Arcane Legions
The game still seems alive but with no new releases in I believe 2 years I don’t see it being alive for long. I bought into Han and the Egyptians. Played the game about 5 times and it was a lot of fun. I’d really like to play again sometime in the future. Not sure of getting rid of it yet as it was very cheap to get into and I can easily teach my daughter how to play this game.
Heroscape
Heroscape got the axe which is unfortunately since it was such a fun and easy game. I’m holding on to this as my daughter can easily learn this game and its just fun over all.
Various Board Games
I got rid of various board games that I’ve only played with once. Among them are Castle Ravenloft, Tannhuaser, Dust Tactics and now Cadwallon City of Thieves. I really need to stop buying board games that only see game play once.
Warhammer Fantasy and 40K
I’ve been free of 40K and Fantasy for over a year now and I think I will keep it that way especially with all the price increases.
